The Official BARMM Flag under its first law

After several months of deliberations in the parliament of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) unvealed its official emblem on 28 August 2019.

BARMM Chief Minister Hadji Ahod “Murad” Balawag Ebrahim, signed the law, creating the region’s official flag. The first law passed by the Regional Transitional Parliament.

The BARMM flag has four distinctive colors, a crescent, a
seven-rayed star, a kris and the Bangsa’s signature Moro sword.

According to BARMM spokesperson; Atty. Naguib Sinarimbo, Minister of the Ministry of Local Governance, the BARMM flag is reflective of its people’s identity, heritage, history, aspirations and struggles.

The flag has three quarter colors. On the top is green which reflects the Islamic teachings and principles.

The middle portion is white, signifying peace, “Sakina (tranquility)” and righteousness.

The bottom part is colored red which symbolizes the fallen Mujahideens who fought for the recognition of identity and self-determination of the Bangsamoro.
In the middle of the white portion, a crescent is found along with the seven-rayed yellow star signifying the bright future that awaits the Bangsamoro.

The crescent symbolizes the principles that has guided the Bangsamoro in the struggle for self-determination.
The seven-rayed star represents the five provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao Del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-tawi and Basilan, Cotabato City and the 63 barangays that are now part of the Bangsamoro territory.

The white kris in the middle of the flag’s red portion symbolizes the protection and resistance of the Bangsamoro and other indigenous peoples in the territory against oppression, tyranny and injustice.
